Pedestrian crossing controlMannofield and Broomhill Liberal Democrat councillor Ian Yuill has challenged Transport Scotland to explain their failure to install additional traffic lights and warning signs at a pedestrian crossing on South Anderson Drive just north of its junction with Broomhill Road.

Ian Yuill said “There is a long-standing problem with some drivers going through red lights at this pedestrian crossing. ‎ There are repeated near misses of people using the crossing and one person has been badly injured after being hit by a car on this pedestrian crossing.

“I have been pressing for action to improve safety at this pedestrian crossing for several years and was very pleased when Transport Scotland agreed in February to install additional traffic lights on a cantilever above the road and improve the warning signs on the northbound approach to the crossing. I was told work on this would take place in March and April.

Ian Yuill continued “It is now mid June and nothing has happened. In the meantime cars, vans and lorries continue to drive through red lights putting people crossing the road at severe risk.”

Ian Yuill has urged Transport Scotland to explain the reason for the delay and to install the extra traffic lights and warning signs without any further delay.

Ian Yuill said ‎”Transport Scotland must act now and install the additional traffic lights and warning signs immediately.

“Every day’s delay in installing the extra lights and warning signs in place puts people using the crossing at greater risk of injury or worse.”
