Household waste and recycling collections set to change

by Ian Yuill on 12 February, 2017

Photo of new mixed recycling binAll household waste and recycling collection routes in Aberdeen will change from 6th March as part of the introduction of a new mixed recycling service.

Your current general waste (black) wheelie bin will become your mixed recycling bin and a sticker will be placed on it to show it is now a mixed recycling bin. New, slightly smaller, general waste wheelie bins will be delivered to homes in Aberdeen beginning on 27th February. These deliveries should take around 11 weeks.

You can put a wider range of items in your mixed recycling bin:

  • glass bottles and jars
  • plastic bottles, pots, tubs and trays
  • food and drink cartons
  • paper, card and cardboard
  • tins, cans, aerosols and foil

Once you have your new bin, your kerbside black box and white bag will no longer be emptied. You can keep these containers and use them as storage or you can return them to your nearest Household Waste Recycling Centre.

If you have not already done so, you will soon receive a new waste and recycling collection calendar. Please check this as your collection day may be about to change.

There are no changes to how you use your brown wheelie bin and it can continue  to be used to recycle food and garden waste. Please check your new collection calendar as your brown bin collection day may be about to change.
