Liberal Democrat councillor Ian Yuill has challenged the new Labour Leader of Aberdeen City Council over his Labour / Conservative / Independent administration’s apparent decision to effectively award committee Conveners and Vice Conveners a pay rise.
The salaries that Councillor Crockett proposed should be paid at today’s statutory meeting of Aberdeen City Council did not include either the 5% cut in Conveners’ salaries or the cut in Vice Conveners’ salaries to £21,000 introduced by the previous Liberal Democrat/SNP administration.
“I’m shocked that almost the first act of Aberdeen’s new Labour / Conservative / Independent coalition of convenience has been to increase the pay of Conveners and Vice Conveners” said Ian Yuill.
“This insensitive move appears to show contempt for the many people in our city struggling on incomes not keeping up with the cost of living.”
Ian Yuill has contacted Councillor Crockett urging the Labour, Conservative and Independent councillors to think again.
