Airyhall, Braeside and Mannofield bus links progress

by Ian Yuill on 27 February, 2016

IFirst Aberdeen bus am pleased that, at the council meeting on Thursday 25th February, every single councillor present backed – in one form or another – the reintroduction of supported bus services. These are socially necessary but unprofitable bus services which the council pays private bus companies to provide.

I was disappointed though that the council did not agree to a proposal I made on behalf of the Liberal Democrats to invest £200,000 in providing these services. This could have provided an hourly service between Airyhall, Mannofield and the city centre.

The council did agree to spend £83,000 on providing a weekday daily service to Mannofield, Airyhall and Lower Deeside and an evening service to Craigiebuckler / Airyhall. I have asked council staff for further information about exactly what these services will be.

Well done. Best we could hope for given the budget. Just a pity First Bus, among their other deficiencies, have no corporate conscience.

Thanks – but I’m trying to get details of exactly what is going to be provided. I am worried that what was agreed might just mean a single bus each way each day.

The proposal from the Liberal Democrats would have funded an hourly service from Airyhall to Mannofield and then into the city centre. Sadly Conservative, SNP and Labour councillors did not support us.

Thank you so much for helping to provide a bus service to Mannofield and Airyhall. I have a neighbour (who is over 90!) and she used the bus service to enable her to get to her appointments at Airyhall Community Centre. Twice now, she has had to take a taxi to get there and she walked all the way back to Morningside Gardens.

Many thanks. Any improvement is most welcome and hopefully Airyhall will get a proper service. The expected reorganised guides in shelters should also be great, and perhaps with more modern buses all will have clearly visible
Route numbers on the front. Yesterday and today buses
actually had route 15 timetables available!
