Speeding on Craigton Road and Gaitside Drive

by Ian Yuill on 27 August, 2016

After being contacted by concerned residents, I have urged the police to take action to tackle the persistent problems of some drivers speeding on both Craigton Road and Gaitside Drive.

I also have the same problem in Morningside Road the speed bumps don’t seem to stop them

Thank you for highlighting this matter to the police. Hammer field Avenue is also something of a race track at times, even with speed bumps.
Cars turning into Hammerfield Ave from the left of Great Western rd frequently cut the across the junction. There have been a few near misses and a few accidents as a result. I’m not sure if there is room for a traffic island but something in place to help those crossing and to protect all using the junction from harm would be a welcome intervention.
The lane, which is accessed from Hammerfield Ave and Duthie Terrace is seeing significant traffic from builders and large delivery vehicles, skip lorries and the like. This is part of life, however, in recent weeks many of the vehicles have taken to driving very quickly across the gravel from the Hammerfield Ave entrance. I have personally witnessed, on several occasions, vans & builders cars driving onto the gravel, stopping and then taking off as fast as they can in order to spray up gravel, to the point they are spinning their wheels on the loose gravel. This leaves a mess, indentations on the lane surface resulting in pitting of the surface, aside from the noise and the safety issue with the speed. I have filled in the pitted areas on several occasions along with a pothole which developed where the road surface and the lane surface meet. The damage is such that you can see the tyre marks along the lane and actually trace them to the vehicle responsible.
A year ago, workmen who were employed by us, used the lane for a period of time for storing equipment etc. At the end of the work we took the view that we should leave the lane in a better state than we found it so put down 2 tons of stone chips and raked them into to place.
I am sure you can understand the frustration and general annoyance caused by the behaviour of the drivers currently misusing the lane.

Do you have any suggestions as to how to resolve this matter?

    Any advice appreciated.

    Kind Regards

    Fiona Willis
