Clearing leaves from pavements

I’ve swept up the leaves on the pavement outside my home

Council staff will be spending the next few weeks clearing fallen leaves from pavements across Aberdeen. Their objective is to have the streets leaf free by Christmas. To help with this annual job they have hired extra mechanical sweepers.

Fallen leaves on pavements can be a hazard for pedestrians so if you know of a particular problem area please do let me know and I will ask council staff to prioritise it.

The e-mail I recently received from the council’s Environmental Manager about leaf clearing said:

Dear Councillor

It is that time of year again when leaves are beginning to fall from the trees and covering our pavements. I am aware that many of your constituents will be making contact with you to advise that their streets need cleared of leaves.

As in previous years the team has hired in additional mechanical sweepers to help with the leaf clearing programme. Leaf clearing will be our priority for the remainder of the year but we will hopefully have the streets leaf free by Christmas.

Can I please ask for your help here. It would be appreciated if you kept requests for leaf clearing to an absolute minimum, only sending through requests where you believe there to be a safety concern. You have been very supportive on this in previous years and our programme has worked very well.

Many thanks

    Hi Ian
There is leaves all over the path that comes from Ramsay crescent down to the shops. I went to my car today and as they are icy I almost slipped I am not good at walking as I have had three hip replacements so don’t like waliking when it’s icy of covered in leaves.
