Council to survey Wellbrae Terrace and Seafield Gardens residents on tackling traffic problems

by Ian Yuill on 3 December, 2016

Over the last few years I have regularly been contacted by residents of both Wellbrae Terrace and Seafield Gardens worried about the volume and speed of traffic on those roads.

After I highlighted the problem of the speed of some cars turning into Wellbrae Terrace from Countesswells Road, Council roads staff built the traffic island at the junction of these roads which has helped reduce the speed of cars turning into Wellbrae Terrace – and ensure they do not cut the corner and stay on the right side of the road.

After being contacted by Seafield Gardens residents, I asked if a similar island could be built at the junction of Seafield Gardens and Countesswells Road. The council’s Traffic Management Team agreed to design one.

The Traffic Management Team has now agreed to carry out an informal consultation with local residents of both Wellbrae Terrace and Seafield Gardens about what action could be taken to discourage drivers from using both roads as through routes. They have told me they will issue a survey questionnaire to residents in the new year.

    Ian,
this sounds good, pity no questionnair’s have been sent to the people on Broomhill Road as the heavy vehicle traffic has increased significantly over the past year and early morning, after 06:00 is getting noisier as the traffic flows at speed. Any chance of liaising with the Traffic Department Management Team, to have some checks done?

    Regards

    Phil

Ian, Well done regarding Aberdeen Council’s agreement to review the overweight, speeding and excessive volume of traffic on the Seafield and Wellbrae rat runs.
The SDA will muster all the suppport it can.

Seven years down the line and the problem of traffic volume and speed in the area is worse than ever. The speed restriction has proven to be as predicted , a waste of time and money, and is only observed by those who appear to be respectful drivers who probably drive at reasonable speeds without instruction… When are the council going to do something worthwhile that will help address this issue?
