Local roads and pavements proposed for resurfacing

by Ian Yuill on 22 January, 2017

Photo of potholesA number of roads and pavements in our area have been proposed for resurfacing by council roads staff.

The proposals are included in a report by council staff to the 24th January meeting of the council’s Communities, Housing and Infrastructure Committee.

The roads proposed for resurfacing by March 2018 are Ruthrieston Road (part), Morningside Road (part), Airyhall Avenue, Craigton Road (part), Morrision Drive (from numbers 13 to 236), the service road outside 1 to 15 Springfield Road, the lower part of Deeside Gardens and Abergeldie Road.

The pavements proposed for resurfacing are Ruthrieston Road (part), Gray Street (part) and Kaimhill Circle (part).

Whilst this is welcome news, many more badly broken up roads and uneven pavements in our area will remain. The only long-term solution is for the council to invest more every year in repairing and resurfacing roads and pavements.

My Liberal Democrat colleagues and I will continue to argue for proper investment in road and pavement resurfacing as part of a fully-costed and balanced council budget.

You can view the full list of proposed road and pavement works on the council’s website.

There appears to be no mention of the resurfacing of the UPPER part of Deeside Gardens. Is this still to be done early this year as planned with the Lower part next year? As you yourself said the upper part is non repairable and gets worse by the day. If we have been put on hold then the residents here must ask why there is need to resurface Springfield road at the bottom service road. There is little traffic there and mostly the road seems to be used for car parking by patients of the Dental practice. here in Deeside Gardens there is a great deal of traffic with cars, delivery vans and lorries most weekdays. Hopefully you can reassure me?

Please keep the pressure on for resurfacing of Thorngrove Avenue including the junction speed humps .

Any sign of Cranford Road being re-surfaced? It has been re-patched every year and is in a terrible state at the Broomhill Road end.

Cranford Road is not in the proposed resurfacing programme for 2017/18. Its also not in the “reserve list” for 2017/18. The reserve list is a fairly good guide to what council roads staff will propose in the next year’s programme.

I certainly agree that Cranford Road should be resurfaced. It is potholed and crumbling – especially near Broomhill Road as you say. I will keep urging council staff to take action.

Does no council employee ever use Salisbury Terrace as it has been the worst road in the area for potholes and crumbling speed bumps for several years and just seems to be ignored.
