Dog fouling on the increase?

by Ian Yuill on 5 February, 2017

"No fouling" signI am now getting more complaints from residents about dog fouling in our area. Problem areas recently highlighted to me have included Airyhall, around Broomhill School, Ruthrieston, the footpath on the north bank of the River Dee and around Inchbrae Drive.

Whenever a problem is reported to me I ask council staff to clear the mess. I also ask the City and Dog Wardens to see if they can identify the dog owners responsible

If you know of a dog fouling problem in our area please let me have the details.

Dog fouling is not only unsightly and messy, it is also a health risk. All dog mess contains bacteria that can cause stomach upsets if swallowed. However, the greatest risk to public health from dog faeces is the parasite Toxicara which can cause various health problems including blindness and liver disorder in humans. It is therefore vital to wash your hands thoroughly if you come into contact with dog mess.

Dog fouling bad from Gaitside crescent round to shop at Gaitside drive plus the council Street cleaner does not clear it up

It would be useful to have warning signs of instant fines and name and shame for folk who continue to allow dogs to fowl the footpaths and Duthie Park. I have an Alsatian and always clear up after her. On occasions I offer people a polythene bag only to receive abuse.
