Annoyance grows as South Anderson Drive – Holburn Street footpath remains blocked

by Ian Yuill on 19 November, 2017

Photo of blocked footpathLocal residents have told me how annoyed they are that the footpath from South Anderson Drive to Holburn Street is still blocked, several months after a neighbouring business first put up barriers.

Different reasons for the barriers being put up have been given over the last few months – anti-social behaviour, a dangerous building and, most recently, the legal status of the area.

Much of the blocked off area is owned by the council and the footpath has used by people for very many years.

I have been urging council staff to take action to get the footpath reopened since soon after the barriers were put up. I have now asked the council’s Director of Communities, Housing and Infrastructure – the senior manager responsible for roads, footpaths, planning and council property – to get involved and have the footpath reopened as quickly as possible.

I disagree with this. Why should people be allowed to walk through private property? This all started about twenty years ago when some man in Holburn Street complained. I cannot see any elder resident using that where some one might be waiting to attack them.
