Good news – council moves towards 20mph limit in part of Mannofield

by Ian Yuill on 26 November, 2017

Photo of 20mph signAfter carrying out a survey and informal consultation with residents, council roads staff have said they will propose introducing a 20mph speed limit on Wellbrae Terrace, Seafield Gardens, Craigielea Avenue and Kenfield Crescent.

This is good news and follows several years of pressure for action.

The council’s roads staff will also be proposing to councillors that additional double yellow lines are placed at the junction of Seafield Gardens and Seafield Road and at the junction of Wellbrae Terrace and Countesswells Road.

They did not agree with other requests from residents, including placing a traffic island at the junction of Seafield Gardens and Countesswells Road and closing off one end of both Seafield Gardens and Wellbrae Terrace.

The next step is for the proposals to be included in a report to councillors at the January meeting of the council’s Communities, Housing and Infrastructure Committee.

A lot of us have been asking for a 20 mph speed on Gaitside Dr for ages but of course this is garthdee

20 areas in the Seafield area
This is a welcome proposal but as with all the other similar
speed restrictions streets must be policed
    Bin collections
Our bins often struggle to cope with 2 week collections
The amount of junk mail, food wrapping and seasonal garden waste will have to be addressed

Sadly this will make no difference whatsoever to all of us living in the streets mentioned. Our life has been made a misery by all those rat runners. The Roads Department should afford us the same traffic calming as Burns Road. What makes some residents object to speed bumps is the fact that council workmen are incompetent to make them all of a standard size!

I received by e-mail a copy of Roads Dept. traffic survey report for Seafield Gardens and found that it was extremely negative with the comment under most headings ‘No action proposed’ I appreciate that monies are extremely restricted but with the only suggestion being to park on roadside to slow down vehicles I consider this a poor suggestion as being narrower (as is pointed out in the report) than Welbrae Terrace what happens is most people then park partially on the pavement thus impeding pedestrian/pram movement. This I suggest is impossible to control.
