AWPR opening should take traffic off Anderson Drive

by Ian Yuill on 12 December, 2018

Photo of AWPR signThe opening of the southern section of the Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route earlier today should mean less through traffic using South Anderson Drive and Anderson Drive. These roads will though remain some of the busiest in Aberdeen.

Responsibility for managing South Anderson Drive, Anderson Drive, North Anderson Drive, Stonehaven Road, the Parkway, Ellon Road and Auchmill Road will pass to Aberdeen City Council when they are “detrunked” by the Scottish Government. These roads are likely to be detrunked in April next year. Until the roads are detrunked they will continue to be managed by Transport Scotland and their contractor Bear Scotland.

  1. Thank you for always keeping us informed of local issues.
Anderson Drive is dangerous – please try to get Aberdeen CC to look carefully at the management of roundabouts as it is horrendous for pedestrian to cross near to them as cars come round quickly from another angle and don’t see people due to the fullness of greenery!

The difference to traffic volume on SAD has already been remarkable and is greatly appreciated.

  3. Dave Gauld says:

From very initial observation the quantity of HGV traffic on Broomhill road seems to have reduced significantly with the opening of the AWPR

  4. Debbie Downie says:

It’s lovely and quiet living here since the bypass opened. Traffic down by about half.

  5. Ian MacKenzie says:

Already very noticeable at evening rush hour that traffic flow is much reduced.
Totally agree with Dave Gauld’s comment above – I also have yet to come face to face with an HGV hurtling down Broomhill Road towards Gt Southern Road and Duthie Park. It was an all too common occurrence – and sometimes resembled a convoy !!
    A great improvement.
