Call for changes at Great Western Road / Anderson Drive junction

I have called on council to act to make it easier and safer for drivers to turn rights from Great Western Road at its junction with Anderson Drive and South Anderson Drive.

People have repeatedly asked for either right turn filters or separate light phases for eastbound and westbound traffic on Great Western Road to be introduced at the traffic lights at this junction. Making either one of these changes would make it easier to turn right from Great Western Road onto South Anderson Drive and Anderson Drive, improve road safety and reduce “rat running” on residential roads near the junction.

Every time I raised this on behalf of residents, Transport Scotland refused to act. The reason given was that it would delay traffic on Anderson Drive and South Anderson Drive.

Now that the Western Peripheral Route has opened and control of Anderson Drive has passed from Transport Scotland to the council, I have urged the council to take action and introduce either right turn filters or separate light phases for eastbound and westbound traffic on Great Western Road.

Thank you for trying to sort out this dreadfully dangerous area of 2 main roads within Aberdeen.

Lorries are at times impatiently waiting for a gap in the through traffic from east to west and vice versa!
Will it take a serious accident to bring our roads department to act on our behalf!
Remember citizens of Aberdeen pay money into the city!

Thanks Ian as I do agree it is a safety issue long overdue and sincerely hope you are successful in your efforts.

I appreciate what you are trying to do!
Morningside Road is very much used as a ‘Rat Run’ and drivers do not keep to the 20 mile speed limit! ….which is frightening as children make their way to school.
Is there more I can do – who would I contact – to curd the speed of vehicles speeding on this residential street
    Kind regards

I have raised the issue of some drivers speeding on Morningside Road with the police in the past. I will do so again but, given how stretched the police can be, they give this a low priority.
