Concerns about Salisbury Terrace resurfacing

by Ian Yuill on 15 November, 2019

It was great to see the badly broken and uneven surface of Salisbury Terrace resurfaced very recently. Unfortunately it seems some problems have arisen with the new surface.

Like others, I noticed the new surface appears to be crumbling in several places. The worst of these is near the junction with Great Western Road.

There are also raised edges at some of the ironworks in the road surface.

I have contacted council staff about this. They told me that problems may well have been caused by the cold weather when the surface was laid. They have agreed to clear the loose material and will keep the road surface under observation. They have confirmed to me that they will arrange for it to be repaired after the winter if that is required.

I agree, very disappointing to see the road deteriorate already! Would have liked to have seen the speed bumps also repaired.

What a disgrace! Says it all about the standard of workmanship we are learning to expect from Council workers nowadays.

I understand it was a contractor and not council staff.

I have been told the problems are apparently due to the low temperatures at the time the tarmac was laid.

Council staff are aware of the issues and will have repairs carried out if required.
