Scottish Water is urging people to be very careful about what they flush down toilets.
In the final two weeks of March, Scottish Water’s sewer response teams cleared 1,343 blocked sewer pipes across the country.
Potential alternatives to toilet paper such as wipes, kitchen roll and blue roll are not designed to break up in the sewer system – and risk causing internal flooding to homes, avoidable health risks and environmental pollution.
Scottish Water is asking people to only flush the 3Ps – pee, poo and toilet paper. Anything else should be put in a bag and disposed of in a bin.
To report disruption to essential water or sewerage services contact Scottish Water by email or by phone on 0800 077 8778.
