Ruthrieston Outdoor Sports Centre gates broken open – twice

by Ian Yuill on 10 April, 2020

It is a disgrace that the gates of Ruthrieston Outdoor Sports Centre on Pitstruan Place have been broken open, not just once but twice, in recent days.

Sport Aberdeen closed Ruthrieston Outdoor Sports Centre to comply with Government guidelines after the Coronavirus lockdown was put in place. Closing all tennis facilities is also the guidance given by both Tennis Scotland and the Lawn Tennis Association.

The cable ties initially used to secure the gates were cut within an hour and people continued to play tennis and walk dogs.

Sport Aberdeen then secured the gates with metal cables like those used for bicycle locks. Those were cut within hours.

After residents told me that the cables has been cut, I contacted Sport Aberdeen which has now used chains to secure the gates.

Facilities including play areas, tennis courts, outdoor sport centres and outdoor gyms have been closed for a very good reason. Please do not use these.
