With the community council elections coming up, now is your chance to become a community councillor. Anyone over age 16 who is on the electoral register in a community council area is entitled to stand for election.
Community councils normally meet in the evening once a month to discuss issues affecting their area, including planning and licensing. All meetings are held in public.. Some community councils circulate newsletters to residents and undertake their own local projects. Meetings typically last no more than two hours – and it is usually less.
There are four community councils in the area I represent on the City Council. These are:
Ashley and Broomhill, which includes the Broomhill part of my City Council ward. This is the area bounded by Great Western Road, Sound Anderson Drive, the Deeside Way, and Holburn Street.
Braeside and Mannofield : This is the area bounded by the Deeside Way, South Anderson Drive, Anderson Drive, Seafield Road, Countesswells Road and a line running south west from beyond the last house on Countesswells Road to the Deeside Way.
Ferryhill and Ruthrieston : This includes the Ruthrieston part of my ward. This is the area bounded by South Anderson Drive, Holburn Street, and the Deeside Way.
Garthdee : This is the area enclosed within the Deeside Way, South Anderson Drive, the River Dee, and a line running north west from the Dee to the Deeside Way.
I regularly attend meetings of these four community councils to listen to community councillors views and take action on points they raise.
You can find more information about becoming a community councillor here. Nominations are open until 5th September and you can download a nomination form here.
