Over £10 million will be invested in roads, pavements, street lighting, and related works across Aberdeen in 2024/25.

This is a result of the commitment to invest more in repairing and resurfacing Aberdeen’s crumbling roads and pavements made by my colleagues and I when we took control of the City Council in May 2022.

The detailed list of roads and pavements to be resurfaced in 2024/25 was confirmed at a meeting of the Council’s Net Zero, Environment and Transport Committee on 11th June.

I am pleased that the following roads in our area are to be resurfaced:

  • Craigton Road by its junction with Airyhall Place
  • Countesswells Road between its junction with Springfield Road and Airyhall School.
  • all of Hammerfield Avenue
  • Springfield Road from its junction with Craigton Road to north of its junction with Countesswells Road

Pavements on the following roads are to be resurfaced:

  • part of the south side of Abergeldie Terrace
  • the south side of Auchinyell Road east of Kaimhill Road
  • Garthdee Drive between Pitmedden Road and PItmedden Terrace
  • part of the pavement of Gray Street

In addition to this, street lighting work is planned for the Deeside Gardens area and work is planned on the Ruthrieston Road bridge.

Whilst this is good news, it will take several years to bring Aberdeen’s roads and pavements up to an acceptable standard. My colleagues and I are committed to continuing to investing what its needed to achieve this.

I reported a tree outside 67 Braeside Terrace Aberdeen on 10th July 2923

Nothing has been done about it! Now branches are being knocked down due to Lorries driving past plus pavement side the branches hit you on the head & I am only 5ft 4 inches.
Ian can you do anything to get this treee trimmed back please.

    • Ian Yuill says:

Astrid Gray, I know that the Tree Team are still dealing with the backlog of damage caused by the storms over the last two winters. I will contact them about tree at 67 Braeside Terrace.

  2. Anna Britain says:

Would really appreciate Gray Street be resurfaced. My car is going into the garage again re suspension. Any date for this please.

    • Ian Yuill says:

Anna Britain, I’m afraid Gray Street is not included in the list of roads to be resurfaced this year.

Gray Street between Great Western Road and Broomhill Road is though included in the “reserve list” of roads to be resurfaced. This list includes roads which may be resurfaced if it is not possible to resurfaced some of the roads in the “main list” (the list of roads scheduled to be resurfaced this year).

Inclusion in the reserve list is a good indication that a road may well be included in the main list the following year. There is though no guarantee of that.

  3. S Leyton says:

Whilist noting with relief the increased road
Repairs Maintanence across the Garthdee Braeside Airyhall and hopefully other Aberdeen areas I haven’t driven through I have to ask while little to no work had been
Carried out during the recent past period where have the funds materialised from( Hammerfield Road being one was in a dreadful condition). A Mr Hamas Yousef froze Council Taxes across Scotland so were the finances already in place but held back in readiness for a general election splurge.

    • Ian Yuill says:

Steve Leyton, absolutely nothing to do with elections.

When my colleagues and I took control of the City Council in May 2022 we made it clear that improving the condition of Aberdeen’s crumbling roads and pavements was one of our key priorities. Over 2023/24 and 2024/25 we have added an extra £7 million to the roads and pavements resurfacing and repairs budget. We will continue to invest more in this in the years ahead.
