Broomhill Road hole – Scottish Water finally accepts responsibility

Scottish Water has finally accepted responsibility for the sunken area of road surface at 281 Broomhill Road and agreed to repair the leak which caused this problem. This followed a site meeting today (Thursday 5th September) with Council staff.
The sunken area was dug out by Council workers recently as Scottish Water had refused to take any action until it was confirmed the sunken area of road surface had been caused by a leak from a Scottish Water pipe.
Council staff have told me that Scottish Water is likely to treat this as urgent and that this part of Broomhill Road will have to be closed in both directions while the repair carried out.
The Council will charge Scottish Water for the cost of the work Council staff have carried out.
The message I received from the Council’s Roads Manager said:
“A meeting with Scottish Water was held on site today and they have agreed the issue lies with them and have marked up where they believe the repair is needed. Don’t have a timeline for repair however I expect this to be urgent. It will require a full closure and that will be for SW to manage. We will recover our costs to date.”

How will this affect the Buses coming down Broomhill Road and from what date
The buses will have to be diverted. There is no date yet.
There has been traffic lights at that dug up hole for 3 wks but no workmen doing anything for 2 wks why does everything take so long it was supposed to have been urgent . So when will it be finished.

Marie Cruden, the hole was dug by Council staff so that, hopefully, evidence could be found that the problem was caused by Scottish Water. Council staff obviously cannot repair Scottish Water equipment faults. The delay in anything happening is because Scottish Water only finally accepted responsibility on Thursday last week.
Good-morning Mr. Yuill, I was glad to see that the dip in the road surface had started on Broomhill Road. The job has lasted longer than I would expect, with days on end with no workmen to be seen, and the hole is still not repaired which has now gone into WEEKS, with disruption to traffic and bus services. I hope that that the work will be completed this week I am not holding my breathe as firms now adays do not care about the disruption they cause to the general public. I would like you to see if you could push the firm along to finish this work to a busy commuter route from Garthdee and Mannofield.

If Scottish Water does have to dig up the full width of Broomhill Road, I would be very, very surprised if the work was finished next week. As far as I know, Scottish Water hasn’t yet even given a start date for the work.
I will of course contact Scottish Water and urge that the work is completed as soon as possible.
Buses will have to be diverted – South Anderson Drive & Cranford Road…
Meanwhile “Don’t have a timeline for repair however I expect this to be urgent.” so the temporary traffic lights will stay on Broomhill Road until SW close off Broomhill Road to carry out the repair work.
Hopefully SW get it done quicker than their Mannofield Reservoir upgrade project where Morningside Road parking restrictions have been extended for another 6-8 months
IanMacK, Scottish Water is more or less free to do as it wishes, including digging up roads. The same goes for other utility companies.
