Countesswells Road / Springfield Road junction resurfacing – further update

by Ian Yuill on 11 October, 2024

There has been a change of plans for the road resurfacing work at the junction of Countesswells Road and Springfield Road and on Springfield Road between Countesswells Road and Craigton Road. The work will now be carried out in two phases with the Countesswells Road / Springfield Road junction now only due to close at 7pm Friday 18th October and reopen by the morning of Monday 21st October. There will now be no overnight closures of the junction at any other times. These changes mean there are also changes to First’s plans for bus diversions.

Access to the Airyhall Community Centre and Airyhall Library car parks will not be affected by either phase of the work.

Phase 1 – Springfield Road – 11th to 18th October

Phase 1 is the resurfacing the stretch of Springfield Road between its junctions with Countesswells Road and Craigton Road. Phase 1 will commence on morning of Friday 11th October and is due to be completed by the evening of Friday 18th October. Access will be maintained to the Airyhall Clinic car park throughout these works.

People that need access to Airyhall Clinic car park are asked to use Airyhall Drive, and then turn left onto Springfield Road to access the car park. For other resident access, those that live on Airyhall Drive and Beechhill Gardens are asked please to access these areas via Countesswells or Craigton Road entrances.

Phase 2 – the junction – 18th to 21st October

Phase 2 is the resurfacing of the junction of Countesswells Road and Springfield Road and Countesswells Road. Phase 2 will begin at 7pm on Friday 18th October and is due to be completed and reopened before the rush hour on the morning of Monday 21st October.

During Phase 2, there will be no access across the junction. Access to the Community Centre and Library car parks will be via Countesswells Road.

For Phase 2 of the works diversion routes will be signposted, Countesswells Road west will be accessible via Craigton Road and Airyhall Avenue, Countesswells Road east will be accessible via Anderson Drive. South Springfield Road will be accessible via Anderson Drive and St John’s Terrace. North Springfield Road will be accessible via Anderson Drive and Queen’s Road.

In addition to this, there will be no left-turn from the north arm of Springfield Road onto Countesswells Road from Wednesday 16th October for one week.
