Gray Street pavement resurfacing delayed until October

by Ian Yuill on 13 August, 2021

A national shortage of paving slabs has led to the resurfacing of part of the pavement on the odd numbered side of Gray Street being delayed from July until October.

At the end of July I asked the Roads Service why the resurfacing of the pavement between 49 and 89 Gray Street had not been carried out that month as scheduled.

The work which was due to be carried out included both laying new paving slabs and removing the large tree stumps from this stretch of pavement.

The reply I received from the Roads Service said:

“Unfortunately the works on Gray Street footways have had to be postponed as there has been a mass shortage of materials across the whole of the UK and the contractors have been unable to source slabs in order to complete the works in July. The works have now been rescheduled for 4 October for four weeks which will overlap with the school holidays in order to cause as little disruption as possible.”
