Around eight years ago Transport Scotland finally agreed to take action to improve pedestrian safety on the pedestrian crossing on South Anderson Drive just uphill from Broomhill Road. After years of pressure, Transport Scotland agreed to install additional traffic lights on a cantilever over the pedestrian crossing. Transport Scotland promised this would be done in March 2016.
Responsibility for installing this cantilevered street light remains with Transport Scotland, despite responsibility for South Anderson Drive transferring to the City Council in 2019.
Incredibly, after a series of missed deadlines, the additional traffic lights have still not been installed. The most recent date given for this work is February 2024.
Aberdeen City Council staff and I will continue to press for this work to be done.
