Linda Dawson and Councillor Ian Yuill believe a red light camera at the crossing on South Anderson Drive, just uphill from Broomhill Road, would improve safety.

“We should not have to wait for more people to be injured before a red light safety camera is installed at the crossing” said Linda Dawson.

“It would be a tragedy if someone else had to be injured – or worse – before a camera could be installed.”

Mrs Dawson also revealed that earlier this week her daughter was almost knocked down at the same crossing when a car sped through the red lights.

Mannofield and Broomhill councillor Ian Yuill added “Since I first highlighted this issue I have been contacted by residents very concerned at how often cars, vans and lorries simply drive through red lights at this crossing.

“A red light safety camera would catch those who ignore the red light and encourage drivers to pay more attention as they approach the crossing.”

Ian Yuill is writing to Transport Minister Keith Brown MSP urging him to change the criteria for installing red light cameras.

“People who use this crossing realise just how dangerous it can be. It should not need another accident to prove that. The Minister should act to change the criteria for installing red light safety cameras – and he should do it now” said Ian Yuill.
