Europcar parking problems

by Ian Yuill on 6 July, 2016

Europcar, Broomhill RoadI have been contacted by a number of residents about the problems caused by hire cars and vans from the Europcar premises on Broomhill Road being parked on neighbouring roads.

In an area where parking spaces are limited this is making it even more difficult for residents to park nearer their homes.

When this problem last arose a few years ago the person who was then the manager of this branch of Europcar agreed to stop using neighbouring roads to park cars. I have contacted the person now managing the branch and, once again, urged Europcar to be a good neighbour and stop parking their vehicles on the roads around their premises.

The main issue around Balmoral place, and surrounding is no so much euro car but commuters etc who park daily from 8 am till 5/6pm walk to talisman or catch buses into town for work if I come home at lunch time or move my car there is no spaces to park till evening, the street literally gets filled with commuters cars ! this issue is very annoying for my self and my neighbours, I personally would love residents parking during the week and would quiet happy pay for a permit for myself

I am sure that they park in Irvine Place.
Their premises in Broomhill Road look far too small for the number of vehicles that they have.

Ian, it is not only Europcar, who cause problems, but others who come from out of town into Aberdeen on a daily basis, park in our area then walk or catch a bus to work. I have noted quite a few in the past couple of years who do this, especially people who deposit their children at Broomhill School then go to work, leaving parked cars. Maybe we should have card, or a council note, for our cars, not quite residents permits but something which will make things more restrictive for these people.

Thank you for looking into this. it does cause a lot of disruption to traffic flow in the morning when the traffic is at its heaviest along this road. The buses need to keep to a timetable and they are at the mercy of motorists if the Eurocars are parked on the street.

This problem has been ongoing for many years. I can sympathise with the hire company as they have a business to run but as residents who pay our taxes we should be able to park our car at or near our home. Parking around here is such an emotive issue that unless something is done ” road rage” could lead to physical violence on the streets. People’s tolerance levels are at an all time low and I have witnessed some very ugly scenes which are very worrying. We need some kind of action to diffuse the situation.
