Bridge of Dee to close overnight for up to three weeks

by Ian Yuill on 12 October, 2016

Photo of Bridge of DeeThe Bridge of Dee is due to close overnight for up the three weeks, beginning on 24th October.

The bridge will be closed in both directions each night between 7.30pm and 6am to allow Bear Scotland to carry our repairs. Traffic will be diverted along Riverside Drive and Great Southern Road.

The Bridge of Dee is part of the A90 trunk road and is managed by Transport Scotland and not by Aberdeen City Council.

Despite other routes into the City, and the soon to be delivered spur road from Stonehaven, there will always be a desire to travel to and from Anderson Drive (the ring road of old) connecting with the south side of the River Dee. There remains a need for a modern bridge nearby, to replace the existing, and many plans have been considered by different councils over the years. If still for Transport Scotland to solve, it may be a wait of many more years. Could this soon be taken out of the trunk road context and made a City roads issue as essential infrastructure?

There is work underway developing a proposal for a new bridge across the Dee.

The Bridge of Dee will be “detrunked” once the AWPR opens. At that point the bridge becomes the responsibility of the city council and not the Scottish Government.

Hi, keep up the good work. I think the BEST answer is to build a tunnel.
