Morningside street trees issues

by Ian Yuill on 21 August, 2021

I have urged Council staff to remove dead street trees and street tree stumps in the Morningside area. I have also asked for replacement street trees to be planted in that area.

There are dead street trees on Morningside Crescent and Morningside Avenue and tree stumps which need to be removed on Morningside Road and Morningside Avenue.

There are also many gaps where there used to be street trees and I have called on the City Council to replace at least some of these.

Please do let me know about any problems with street trees in our area.

Mr Yuill Re trees in the Morningside area.- Perhaps you are unaware that over many years, the trees which were originally planted on the pavement area in MORNINGSIDE GARDENS have gradually died and have never been replaced despite many appeals over many years to the Council . Of course, the central “garden” area is private and is maintained by the householders in the Gardens. and is our responsibility, but NOT the missing trees. .
    Perhaps you could address this?

The Council seem to place no priority on tree replacement in our area.
You will be aware of my experience :

    1. Tree work request submitted January 2017 due to tree leaning across the street.
Tree subsequently fell across the street before the council did any remedial work.
(I had to call the council as the tree was across the street)
    2. Council came out to saw tree stump and remove debris but left ground stump hole – a particular safety hazard to local pedestrians.
Raised issue with Council and received a response in June 2017 (ENQ038873)
    3. November 2017 (?) Council left traffic cone on stump (as they did to numerous other tree locations in the area)
    3. August 2019 (??), Council excavate tree stump etc and install ‘tree planting pit frame’
    4. In November 2020, after raising the issue with yourself, the Council raised case FS-Case-269131303
No further work carried out since then.
So after 4-1/2 years it might not be too outrageous to consider the Council as ‘not fit for purpose’
