After I contacted Council staff about missing street trees in the Morningside area they have agreed to plant approximately 30 new street trees in the Morningside area this winter.
The new trees will be planted in empty street tree “pits”.
I am delighted that so many new street trees are to be planted in the Morningside area – these will make a real difference for years to come.
Please do let me know about anywhere else in our area that you would like to see missing street trees replaced.

Last month the Council announced another scheme to plant 5 thousand trees, but once again it seems to avoid the obvious ares requiring improvement. All street tree pits need to be maintained properly: removing dead trees and remaining stumps, restoring those pits tarred over carelessly, introducing correct growing medium, planting suitable matching rows. “Approximately” 30 street trees is a small start, but must be part of a larger budgeted programme to regenerate the quality of the city environment in a sustainable way. Can the proposed replanting be indicated on a location plan to monitor progress and can the same action be replicated elsewhere in Ward 11?
