The City Council is seeking people’s views on its 2024/25 budget in the face of having to bridge a budget gap of £35 million next year.
Government funding cuts and the rising cost of providing services means the Council must plan for a funding shortfall of £83 million over the next four years, including £35m in 2024/25.
This second phase of the budget consultation presents options drawn up by Council staff for making savings – the same options that will go to councillors before they set the Council’s budget early in 2024.
Please do take the time to complete the survey – every person’s views matter.
You can complete the survey here.
If you don’t have internet access at home, the consultation can be accessed at schools, libraries, and the Customer Service Centre at Marischal College.
The consultation closes on 12th November and the results will be presented to a Council on 13th December.

With recurring significant shortfalls, the council should be exploring option to bring its workers pensions, sickness, absence and other benefits into line with the private sector. In these difficult times, it is incredible that the council continues with the enormous costs of maintaining defined benefits pensions and other ‘top of the range’ benefits that far exceed those the vast majority of local tax payers enjoy.
Aligning council worker’s pensions and benefits with the private sector would more than comfortably address the budget shortfall for this and many years to come.
Why is this not being considered/offered as an option?
